BIOGRAPHY - Antonio Zoppi (1860 - 1926)
Antonio Zoppi was an Italian genre painter active in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Born in Novara in the far north of Italy, Zoppi studied in Rome under Cesare Maccari. At the age of twenty-one, he began exhibiting his work in both Rome and Milan. His oeuvre mainly consists of scenes from daily life, historic interiors showing apparel and pastimes of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He died in Florence on April 28, 1926. He is not to be confused with an earlier decorative painter of the same name active in Emilia-Romagna in the early to mid-nineteenth century.
