"Where Adventure Begins (Honalee)" was inspired by the popular song "Puff, the Magic Dragon" written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow, and made popular by Yarrow's group Peter, Paul and Mary in a 1963.

The lyrics for "Puff, the Magic Dragon" were based on a 1959 poem by Leonard Lipton, a 19-year-old Cornell University student. Lipton was inspired by an Ogden Nash poem titled "Custard the Dragon". The lyrics tell a story of the ageless dragon (“Puff”) and his young playmate Jackie Paper having adventures in the land of Honalee (a place “by the sea”). In the original story, Jackie eventually grows up and loses interest in the imaginary adventures of childhood---leaving Puff alone and longing for his return. My central focus here is Puff, emerging from his cave, inviting the next Jackie to come and begin another series of adventures in the rich landscape of Honalee. Additional elements throughout the piece hint at aspects of Puff’s legend and it is my hope that you enjoy uncovering them all.
