However, he has frequently rebuffed such titles, not wanting to be stuck into one category or another. He does have a distinct style, though, giving his own flair to things as small as <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hennessy.com\/sites\/hennessy_us\/files\/styles\/landscape_1440x810\/public\/2020-09\/hennessy-frank-ghery-landscape-4.jpg?itok=rvQ6hv1z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">a new Hennessy decanter<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, as mundane as <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.arup.com\/globalassets\/images\/projects\/d\/dr-chau-chak-wing-building\/chau-chak-wing-building.webp?width=1840&amp;height=1035&amp;quality=80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">school office buildings<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Australia, and as iconic as <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/8\/8c\/Walt_Disney_Concert_Hall%2C_LA%2C_CA%2C_jjron_22.03.2012.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the Walt Disney Concert Hall<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Los Angeles or the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.guggenheim-bilbao.eus\/uploads\/2019\/05\/el-edificio-guggenheim-bilbao-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Guggenheim Museum<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Bilbao. Over the last decade, he has also taken on new projects in Asia. The first of these structures was a residential building at 53 Stubbs Road in Hong Kong. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> was followed by another project in Hong Kong and another in South Korea. Gehry has also <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been asked<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to design the Guggenheim\u2019s <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/static.dezeen.com\/uploads\/2019\/05\/guggenheim-abu-dhabi-frank-gehry_dezeen_936_hero4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">new location in Abu Dhabi<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. But now, in what some publications call the architect\u2019s first major building in East Asia, construction has begun at the China Medical University (CMU) in Taichung, Taiwan, on the university\u2019s Museum of Fine Arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/2679035\/2024_12_11_Sora_1_cutted.jpg?p=large\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The concept art<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> gives you a good idea of who designed the building. The planned work screams Gehry, with the architect taking inspiration from natural elements like water and sky. The rippling, reflective exterior <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is meant<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to be surrounded by trees, plants, and water features. In an interview with the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">New York Times<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Gehry said the design \u201cis inspired by reflections of buildings, trees, and the sky on pools of water and mirrored steel. Using softer stainless steel, we crafted a fluid form through precise folds and curves. The building will shimmer gently, breathing with light, like a watercolor in motion.\u201d The museum is the centerpiece of the CMU\u2019s new campus in Shuinan, which has been in the planning stages since 2014. Since Gehry no longer submits to architecture competitions, the university invited him to design the museum. The CMU has long been a prominent institution in the fields of medicine and biotechnology. Still, it has been making an effort over the past decade to become a better space for arts education. The new museum, scheduled to be completed in 2028, is meant to be a sort of epicenter of artistic creation and education. It will also be a new nexus for collaboration with other prominent educational institutions worldwide.
