Like the Joan Mitchell\/Claude Monet show at the Fondation Louis Vuitton (mired in controversy over <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2023\/02\/artists-estate-going-after-louis-vuitton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">a related Louis Vuitton ad campaign<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">), the Alhambra exhibition <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reflections <\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">looks at the dialogue between two artists separated by vast lengths of time. This time, museum visitors are looking at the modern master Pablo Picasso and the contemporary celebrity artist Jeff Koons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Museo de Bellas Artes in Granada <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is located<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> within the Alhambra itself. It is part of the Palacio de Carlos V, a sixteenth-century palace built into the structure following the reconquest of Spain from the Islamic emirates that ruled much of the peninsula for centuries. The new <em>Reflections<\/em> exhibition is a collaboration between the Museo de Bellas Artes and the Museo Picasso in M\u00e1laga. It is one installment in a planned exhibition series \u201cplacing Picasso\u2019s work in dialogue with leading contemporary artists in some of Andalusia\u2019s greatest cultural locations.\u201d According to Museo Picasso director Miguel L\u00f3pez Remiro, the Alhambra exhibition also <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">serves to show<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> how museums can serve a new purpose: as \u201can amplified space where art transcends boundaries and engages in dialogue with multiple contexts\u201d. The show uses works by both artists to examine the dialogue between the two. And while the show is small, featuring only five works in total among the Museo de Bellas Artes permanent collection, the connections they highlight are effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The most notable example on display is Picasso\u2019s 1923 painting <\/span><em><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.museopicassomalaga.org\/cms\/uploads\/small_12399_PICASSO_Las_tres_Gracias_b2fb10b7c1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Three Graces<\/span><\/a><\/em> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and Koons\u2019s sculpture <\/span><em><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/d1bc1xn3hygkq4.cloudfront.net\/rimage\/ftw_webp_768\/image\/21012\/59a2f13af9305d7f7d864404c42041ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Three Graces<\/span><\/a><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which deal with the same mythological subject. In Greco-Roman mythology, the Graces were the embodiments of beauty and harmony and have been a subject for Western artists <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/3\/35\/The_Three_Graces%2C_from_Pompeii_%28fresco%29.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">from antiquity<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/a\/a2\/Raffael_010.jpg\/800px-Raffael_010.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the Renaissance<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Both Picasso and Koons draw from the same artistic motifs often used with the Graces since the classical period. Picasso created a painting that drew from older depictions but maintained his own style regarding form and color. Koons, however, took a different approach. The influence of classical and neoclassical sculpture, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">like the Graces <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/30\/Canova_-_The_Three_Graces%2C_between_1813_and_1816%2C_%D0%9D.%D1%81%D0%BA-506.jpg\/640px-Canova_-_The_Three_Graces%2C_between_1813_and_1816%2C_%D0%9D.%D1%81%D0%BA-506.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">as depicted by Antonio Canova<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, is more apparent in the Koons sculpture. But <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">by<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> using polished stainless steel and bright colors, Koons makes the subject his own, bringing the same glimmer and playfulness as with his other work. By showing these two works together, the Alhambra exhibition aims to \u201cilluminate the continuity and transformation of artistic inspiration, offering visitors a unique perspective on the dialogue between tradition and modernity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The museum marked the exhibition\u2019s opening with a talk between Jeff Koons and Joachim Pissarro discussing Picasso\u2019s influence. <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reflections.
