The action continues to move at a very slow pace, with couple of exceptions (prices shown are hammer) – Soulages Peinture, 21 novembre 1959<\/em> made \u00a33.8M (est.\u00a0\u00a32-\u00a33M) and Gursky’s Chicago Board of Trade III<\/em> made \u00a31.8 ( est. \u00a3600-\u00a3800) while his Chicago Board of Trade<\/em> made \u00a31.3M (hammer – est.\u00a0\u00a3700-\u00a3900K). \u00a0Here is an interesting observation … buyers really wanted the Chicago views since there were also views of Tokyo, Stock Exchange<\/em> (sold for 520K – est. \u00a3500-\u00a3700K); Kuwait Stock Exchange II<\/em> (\u00a3550K – est. \u00a3400-\u00a3600K) and Hong Kong Stock Exchange<\/em> (\u00a3400K – est. \u00a3400-\u00a3600K).<\/p>\n

Lot 23 was a Gerhard Richter which sold for a measly\u00a0\u00a32M (est. \u00a32.5-\u00a33.5M – it was bought by the seller back in 1994 for $126K). \u00a0The star lot, by Francis Bacon, just clipped its low estimate when it sold for \u00a310.1M (est. \u00a310-\u00a315M).<\/p>\n

There were two Wesselmann pieces that failed to sell. \u00a0The first was his Still Life #5 1\/2<\/em> which was bought by the seller in 2008 for $2.26M and carried an estimate of \u00a3900-\u00a31.2M (even if it sold, the owner was ready to take a big loss) and his Great American Nude #34<\/em> which made $680K in 2003 and this time carried a \u00a33-\u00a34M (this owner was looking for a BIG payday). \u00a0In addition, two works by Basquiat passed.<\/p>\n
