As I mention in that post, the station attracted a ton of real estate development in the area\u2026 it eventually became known as Terminal City, the most desirable commercial location in New York.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_46192\" style=\"width: 185px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-1930s.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46192\" class=\"wp-image-46192\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-1930s-181x300.jpg\" alt=\"Chrysler Building circa 1930\" width=\"175\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-1930s-181x300.jpg 181w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-1930s.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-46192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chrysler Building circa 1930<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Possibly the most notable structure that went up in the wake of Grand Central\u2019s completion is the iconic Chrysler Building. In <a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/Mark_Lagu%C3%AB_Chrysler_Building.html\">Mark Lagu\u00eb\u2019s <em>Chrysler Building<\/em><\/a>, the tower rises up and towers over its surroundings. It\u2019s situated in today\u2019s Midtown East, and more specifically the Turtle Bay neighborhood. <span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">Though the 1,046 foot tower now only ranks number 11 on<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\"> the list of tallest building in the city, when it was completed in 1930 it was the tallest building in the world\u2026 but that only lasted 11 months. In a race to be the tallest building,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\"> Walter Chrysler hurried to beat the Empire State Building to completion&#8230; but in doing so, he left the other developers enough time for last minute revisions and the Empire State Building opened in 1931 at 1,250 feet (but that\u2019s for another day).<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_46193\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-building.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46193\" class=\"wp-image-46193\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-building-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Chrysler Building\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-building-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-building-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/chrysler-building.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-46193\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chrysler Building<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Chrysler Building\u2019s 77 stories required approximately 30,000 tons of steel and nearly 4 million bricks! While it was built and designed specifically for the car manufacturer, the Chrysler corporation didn\u2019t pay for any of the construction and never owned it\u2026 the company\u2019s founder and American Automobile pioneer Walter Chrysler funded the entire $20 million project personally so his children could inherit it.<\/p>\n<p>It also has some pop-culture significance as it\u2019s been featured in a ton of movies\u2026 like when Spider-Man perched up on one of the gargoyle-like ornaments on the 61st floor overlooking the city; or when an asteroid knocked off the top half in Armageddon.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Chrysler Building remains one of the most prominent features of New York\u2019s skyline.
