As with Sotheby\u2019s, this was a mixed sale of works ranging from 19th-century Impressionist to living artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42201\" style=\"width: 177px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/giacometti.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42201\" class=\" wp-image-42201\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/giacometti-231x300.jpg\" alt=\"bronze sculpture of a thin man\" width=\"167\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/giacometti-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/giacometti.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Giacometti<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The top lot happened early in the sale when Picasso\u2019s <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">L&#8217;\u00c9treinte<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0(from 1969), hammered down at \u00a312.6M\/$17.4M (\u00a314.7M\/$20.3M w\/p \u2013 est. \u00a311-16M). Coming in a close second was Alberto Giacometti\u2019s bronze\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Homme qui chavire<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0at \u00a312.4M\/$17.1M (\u00a313.7M\/$19M w\/p \u2013 est. \u00a312-18M). This exact piece last appeared on the market back in 1998 and sold for $2.65M \u2013 so I am sure the seller was pleased. Now you may have noticed that the difference in the hammer prices between the first two lots was only \u00a3200K, while the difference in price with the premium added in is about \u00a31M. Wonder why?\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Well, the Giacometti was a guaranteed lot, so the guarantor received a nice discount! Kandinsky took the third spot when\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Noir bigarr\u00e9<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0(1935) found a buyer at \u00a37.8M\/$10.7M (\u00a38.85M\/$12.2M w\/p \u2013 est. \u00a38-12M). In fact, 50% of those sold on the bottom end \u2013 most likely the reserve. Do you think the market needs a breather? I do, but sadly, I doubt that will happen as many more sales are scheduled for July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">By the end of the session, of the 52 works offered (a Banksy was withdrawn before the sale), 46 sold, generating an 88.5% sell-through rate, and the total take was a strong \u00a3101M\/$139.6M (119.3M\/$16.5M w\/p). The presale estimate range was \u00a394.7-138.4M, so they fell within the range, even without the buyer\u2019s premium.
