{"id":4091,"date":"2013-05-29T14:48:59","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T14:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=4091"},"modified":"2019-03-01T01:51:10","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T06:51:10","slug":"tate-museum-purchases-constable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2013\/05\/tate-museum-purchases-constable\/","title":{"rendered":"Tate Museum Purchases Constable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the past three decades, John Constable\u2019s <i>Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows<\/i>, 1831, has been located at the National Gallery of Art, in London.\u00a0 With the current owners (Heirs of Lord Ashton of Hyde) eager to sell the work, the gallery was unable to come up with funds to keep the work of art in their collection.\u00a0 Set to sell on the open market for \u00a340m, there was a chance that the British masterpiece would be sold to an overseas collection.\u00a0 Fortunately, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (\u00a315.8), the Art Fund (\u00a31m), the Manton Foundation and Tate Members, the Tate Museum was able to purchase the work for their spectacular collection, at an offer of \u00a323.1m. \u00a0Tate director, Nicholas Serota states, the negotiations were \u201csimple and straightforward\u201d and he is pleased to keep the work secured in the nation.\u00a0 (The Art Newspaper)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"Web-Constable-tate-acq\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/imgart\/Web-Constable-tate-acq.jpg\" width=\"216\" height=\"172\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the past three decades, John Constable\u2019s Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows, 1831, has been located at the National Gallery of Art, in London.\u00a0 With the current owners (Heirs of Lord Ashton of Hyde) eager to sell the work, the &hellip;
