{"id":37577,"date":"2019-04-24T05:45:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T09:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/?p=37577"},"modified":"2019-04-23T22:00:40","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T02:00:40","slug":"the-purloined-thumb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2019\/04\/the-purloined-thumb\/","title":{"rendered":"The Purloined Thumb!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As one of China\u2019s most prized relics, the Chinese government spent years reviewing the Franklin Institute\u2019s security before agreeing to loan 10 life-sized terracotta soldiers dating back 2000 years.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the institute dropped the ball when they threw an \u201cUgly Sweater\u201d Christmas party on site two years ago, and a boozed-up guest wandered off into the museum.\u00a0 After snapping a selfie with the small army, the 24-year-old party goer, Mr. Rohana, grabbed the hand of one of the soldiers, breaking off his thumb.\u00a0 For the next few weeks, his anxiety was at an all-time high, with the thumb stashed away in his bedroom desk drawer&#8230; that was until the FBI knocked on his front door and he handed over the thumb.<\/p>\n<p>Rohana was indicted on counts of theft and concealment of an object of cultural heritage, crimes punishable by up to 10 years in prison, each.
