{"id":37542,"date":"2019-04-17T17:05:05","date_gmt":"2019-04-17T21:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/?p=37542"},"modified":"2024-03-11T04:24:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T08:24:59","slug":"the-bright-side-of-the-art-worlds-dark-side","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2019\/04\/the-bright-side-of-the-art-worlds-dark-side\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bright Side of the Art World&#8217;s Dark Side"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes the Dark Side of the art world turns Bright.\u00a0 A two-decade-long search for Picasso\u2019s <em>Buste de Femme (dora Maar) <\/em>came to an end last month when\u00a0Dutch investigator Arthur Brand, announced its recovery<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The painting, which hung in Picasso&#8217;s home until his death, was purchased by\u00a0Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Abdulmalik Al-Sheikh in 1980 for \u00a34 million and hung on his 246-foot yacht &#8211; Coral Island.\u00a0\u00a0In 1999, the yacht was scheduled for maintenance, so the painting was wrapped up and locked in a room awaiting transport to a bank vault for safe keeping.\u00a0 A few days later, workers came to collect the painting and poof! It was gone!<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Brand got wind that the painting was moving through the underworld and he let it be known that he wanted to help return it to its rightful owner.\u00a0 Along the way, he learned that the painting traded hands at least ten times since its disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Brand received a phone call from representatives of a Dutch businessman claiming that their client had the painting.\u00a0 \u00a0According to the article, the business man &#8220;thought the Picasso was part of a legitimate deal.
