By The Way, Who Are &#8220;They&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_30251\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30251\" class=\"wp-image-30251 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/4_cloudgate_susan_may_romano-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"4_cloudgate_susan_may_romano-300x221\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-30251\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kapoor &#8220;Cloud Gate&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Anish Kapoor is suing the National Rifle Association (NRA) for copyright infringement after the promotional video, <em>The Violence of Lies<\/em>, was released with images of his Chicago sculpture, <em>Cloud Gate<\/em> (2004). According to the suit, filed in Illinois, Kapoor demanded that\u00a0the NRA remove images of his sculpture from their video, which they have refused to do.\u00a0 So now, he is seeking $150,000 in damages per instance of infringement (the law does allow for that <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/uco\/CopyrightBasics\/penalties.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">level of damages<\/a><\/em>, though to the best of our knowledge, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/copyright.nova.edu\/copyright-myths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nobody has received that amount<\/a><\/em> &#8230; but, there is always a first time).<\/p>\n<p>Kapoor stated that <em>these sadly are times in which it is urgent for us all, in whatever way we can, to stand up to the dark and aggressive forces in society that seek, out of fear and hatred, to lead us backward into a primitive, paranoid, and defensive worldview.<\/em>\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em>Earlier this year Kapoor, in an open letter against the video, commented that <em>the NRA\u2019s \u2018advertisement\u2019\u2026 seeks to whip up fear and hate.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Could you imagine if they found in favor of the artist and awarded him $150,000 for every view of the video?\u00a0 Over 4 million people have already viewed it on YouTube!<\/p>\n<p>Source:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/news\/anish-kapoor-sues-nra-for-copyright-infringement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anish Kapoor sues NRA for copyright infringement<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anish Kapoor is suing the National Rifle Association (NRA) for copyright infringement after the promotional video, The Violence of Lies, was released with images of his Chicago sculpture, Cloud Gate (2004).
