The sale as a whole was expected to bring between \u00a3111-161M, up significantly from last year\u2019s sale which only brought in \u00a396.4M ($133M) on an expected \u00a367-107M.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29100\" style=\"width: 159px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/2-basquat.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29100\" class=\"wp-image-29100\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/2-basquat-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"2-basquat-250x300\" width=\"149\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/2-basquat-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/2-basquat-768x922.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/2-basquat.jpg 853w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 149px) 100vw, 149px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29100\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Basquiat<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Leading the way this year was Andy Warhol\u2019s <em>Six Self Portraits<\/em>, which was surprisingly up for sale after being successfully auctioned off just a few year ago. Back in 2014, the work sold through Sotheby\u2019s New York from $30.1M (est. $25-35M) and this time sold for \u00a322.6M, which works out to a very similar $31.3M\u2026 this time however, with a more conservative \u00a316-20M. In second was Basquiat\u2019s <em>Multiflavors<\/em>, which found a buyer at \u00a312M ($16.65M &#8211; est. \u00a310-15M) followed by Peter Doig\u2019s <em>Charley\u2019s Space<\/em> at \u00a310.9M ($15.1M &#8211; est. \u00a36-8M).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29101\" style=\"width: 134px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Doig.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29101\" class=\"wp-image-29101 \" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Doig-209x300.jpg\" alt=\"3-Doig-209x300\" width=\"124\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Doig-209x300.jpg 209w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Doig-768x1103.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Doig-713x1024.jpg 713w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Doig<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A number of other lots made solid prices\u2026 <em>Three Studies for a Portrait <\/em>by Francis Bacon made \u00a310M ($13.8M); a 1950 Pollock brought in \u00a39.35M ($12.9M); Twombly, Calder, Hockney, Richter and Fontana all had works sell in excess of \u00a31M\u2026 conversely, 5 works failed to sell \u2013 the most notable being Warhol\u2019s <em>Birth of Venus (After Botticelli)<\/em>, which was pegged with a \u00a34.5-5.5M estimate.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the evening, 60 of the 65 works found buyers, or roughly 92%&#8230; the sale totaled \u00a3137.9M ($190.5M) including buyer\u2019s premiums, which was right in the middle of the expected range with 30% of the sold works going for prices above their estimate range, 43% within the range and 26% falling below the estimate range.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, Christie\u2019s London offered up their evening selection of Post-War and Contemporary art\u2026 As you may expect, the results were pretty impressive, as evening sale results often are.
