that happened in 2014 when someone paid\u00a0\u00a342.4 million for the 1966 <em>Portrait of George Dyer Talking<\/em>.\u00a0 And let&#8217;s not forget that in 2013 Elaine Wynn bought his triptych <em>Three Studies of Lucian Freud<\/em> for an amazing $142M.<\/p>\n<p>So it turned out that Basquiat&#8217;s <em>Red Skull<\/em> would take the lead at\u00a0\u00a316.5 million.\u00a0 Japanese collector Yusaku Maezawa was active, purchasing Antony Gormley&#8217;s 28 foot sculpture <em>A Case for an Angel 1<\/em> for \u00a35.3M ($6.2M).<\/p>\n<p>There were a few other sizable failures including works by Doig, Saville and Hirst.\u00a0 This left Christie&#8217;s with a total of\u00a0\u00a399.5M ($130.1M) &#8230;
