it took Scotland and Northern Wales until the early 1980s to adopt similar legislation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Matilda Battersby&#8217;s article in The Independent,\u00a0<em>The National Portrait Gallery recently opened [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/whatson\/i-am-me\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\">I am me<\/a>], an exhibition exploring London\u2019s gay scene in the 1980s, hot on the heels of its Speak Its Name show; while the British Museum\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishmuseum.org\/whats_on\/exhibitions\/desire,_love,_identity.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Desire Love Identity: Exploring LGBTQ Histories<\/a> opens in May; in Manchester the People\u2019s History Museum is documenting 200 years of activism in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phm.org.uk\/whatson\/never-going-underground-the-fight-for-lgbt-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\">Never Going Underground: the Fight for LGBT+ Rights<\/a>; while Liverpool\u2019s Walker Art Gallery will showcase how artists responded to decriminalization in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk\/walker\/exhibitions\/arts-council-collection\/coming-out\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Coming Out: Art and Culture 1967-2017<\/a>, opening in July<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the biggest of the exhibits appears to be Tate Britain&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/whats-on\/tate-britain\/exhibition\/queer-british-art-1861-1967\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Queer British Art 1861-1967<\/em><\/a> which <em>explores how artists expressed themselves in a time when established assumptions about gender and sexuality were being questioned and transformed<\/em>. \u00a0The exhibition includes works by Simeon Solomon, John Singer Sargent, Doran Carrington, Duncan Grant and David Hockney.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/art\/features\/queer-british-art-tate-britain-lgbt-a7669581.html\">Queer British Art at Tate Britain: Is it wrong to group together LGBT art?<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A number of galleries and museums in United Kingdom\u00a0are staging exhibitions to highlight the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act \u00a0of 1967 (a Parliamentary Act which decriminalize homosexual acts\u00a0in private between two men who were at least 21 years &hellip;
