{"id":25616,"date":"2017-01-02T10:07:06","date_gmt":"2017-01-02T15:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=25616"},"modified":"2024-05-01T08:25:12","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T12:25:12","slug":"sold-alonso-perezs-la-noce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2017\/01\/sold-alonso-perezs-la-noce\/","title":{"rendered":"SOLD: Alonso-Perez&#8217;s &#8220;La Noce&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>Source: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/Alonso-Perez_La_Noce.html\">La Noce<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8211; this large work by the 19th century Spanish artist Alonso-Perez (1881-1914) made its way to a new home before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso-P\u00e9rez was born into a family of artists in 1881 in Saragossa, a city with a richly diverse history.\u00a0Little is known of P\u00e9rez&#8217;s early education except that his father, Mariano, was also a painter and presumably provided his son with instruction in the arts. The lure of Paris-and its growing number of private galleries-proved to be an important outlet for the P\u00e9rez family.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 335px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/catalogimages\/alonso_perez_b1974_la_noce_wm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/alonso_perez_b1974_la_noce_wm.jpg\" alt=\"alonso_perez_b1974_la_noce_wm\" width=\"325\" height=\"245\" data-uw-rm-alt-original=\"alonso_perez_b1974_la_noce_wm\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alonso-Perez &#8220;La Noce&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Alonso-P\u00e9rez is known to have been living in Paris in 1901, although it is entirely possible that he had arrived much earlier. He may have begun exhibiting his work as a young teenager, so it is not surprising to find him participating in the Paris Salon in 1901 at age twenty. The record of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des artistes fran\u00e7aises exposition annuelle des beaux-arts provides documentation that Alonso P\u00e9rez&#8217;s painting <em>Bonne Farce<\/em> was included in the exhibition. The entry also notes that he was born in Saragossa, and was currently living with M. Duval at rue du Faubourg-Saint-Martin 78 in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Artistically, Alonso-P\u00e9rez followed in his father&#8217;s footsteps by painting light-hearted genre scenes that were loosely based on eighteenth-century models. Many of these depict flirtatious encounters, such as <em>The Billiard Lesson<\/em>, which are reminiscent of the rococo themes of Fran\u00e7ois Boucher, or alternately, the daily activities such as <em>Going to the Market<\/em>, which echo the focus on bourgeois life espoused by painters like Jean-Baptiste Greuze in the 1770s.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e9rez&#8217;s artistic production also includes designs for woven silk tapestries for Neyret Fr\u00e8res et Cie of St. Etienne in the Rhone Valley region.\u00a0In addition to tapestry designs, P\u00e9rez also created lithographs such as the <em>Bal \u00e9poque Louis XV<\/em> now in the Louvre&#8217;s collection, and prints for publication in a variety of art journals. No doubt this work was a means of providing basic income for a young artist. The most notable of these publications were in German, suggesting that P\u00e9rez was wisely expanding his geographic horizons in an increasingly international art market.<\/p>\n<p>Little is known about Alonso-P\u00e9rez&#8217;s last decade. He does not seem to have exhibited at the Paris Salon after 1901, and there is no documentation of his print work in later publications.
