They grabbed their phones and began FILMING the two young children, grabbing, pushing, and eventually ruining a glass sculpture of angel wings at the Shanghai Museum of Glass.\u00a0 Not only is it disrespectful to the artist and museum, but the work is made of glass \u2013 can we say dangerous!? Good job, chaperones\u2026. The sculpture titled \u201cAngel Is Waiting\u201d, which I must add is\/was quite beautiful, took glass artist Shelly Xue 27 months to complete and has hung in the museum since 2014.\u00a0 Now, with a half-broken wing, Xue has re-titled the work \u201cBroken\u201d and has installed a loop of the security camera footage next to the installation. \u00a0We have yet to learn if the two young children and women are being charged with any crimes or fines.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time a work of art was damaged or completely destroyed while being captured on a\u00a0cellphone:<\/p>\n<p>Two tourists in Italy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/europe\/italy\/11581657\/Tourists-posing-for-selfie-wreck-18th-century-Italian-monument.html\">broke off the crown<\/a> on top of the \u201cStatue of the Two Hercules\u201d at the Piazza del Comune in Cremona while trying to climb on top of it to take a photo.<\/p>\n<p>A student visiting Milan climbed on top of a 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century statue \u201cDrunken Satyr\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2584415\/Student-destroys-statue-trying-selfie-sitting-knee.html\">breaking off his leg<\/a> as he sat on it for a picture.<\/p>\n<p>A young man in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-portugal-statue-selfie-idUSKCN0XV28Z\">Portugal ruined a 126-year-old statue outside a station<\/a> after climbing on top of it for a selfie.
