{"id":24078,"date":"2016-05-10T08:22:12","date_gmt":"2016-05-10T12:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=24078"},"modified":"2024-05-07T04:35:49","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T08:35:49","slug":"sothebys-sales-weaken-amid-thinning-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2016\/05\/sothebys-sales-weaken-amid-thinning-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Sotheby\u2019s Sales Weaken Amid Thinning Market"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>It was a hit or miss sale at Sotheby&#8217;s last night. \u00a0Of the 62 lots offered, 21 failed to sell &#8212; leaving a sell through rate of just 66%. \u00a0The total take for the evening was $144.5M (with the commissions added in) and that was far below the low end of their estimate of $164.8M (without fees). \u00a0There were no blockbuster works on offer and the top lot was a Rodin marble at $20.4M. \u00a0Some other highlights included a <a href=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/bio\/maurice-de-vlaminck\/\">Vlaminck<\/a> at $16.4M, a very small Signac at $10.7M and three Monets that all sold. \u00a0Among the big failures were Derain&#8217;s\u00a0&#8220;Les Voiles Rouges&#8221;, a Fauvist painting\u00a0that carried a $15-$20M estimate, a few Picassos, an Ernst, two Edvard Munchs and a few others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What does this say about the market?
