{"id":23203,"date":"2016-02-12T20:58:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T20:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=23203"},"modified":"2019-02-28T22:34:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T03:34:01","slug":"happy-birthday-joan-mitchell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2016\/02\/happy-birthday-joan-mitchell\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Birthday Joan Mitchell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Birthday to the late, American \u201csecond generation\u201d abstract expressionist painter, Joan Mitchell.\u00a0 Mitchell, born in Chicago, Illinois, was one of the few female artists to become recognized as an important abstract expressionist painter in the 1900\u2019s.\u00a0 Her early works were strongly influenced by artists like, Paul Cezanne, Wassily Kandinsky, Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh and then later influenced by <span class=\"marked_text chart-tooltip-target-top tooltip_id-de_kooning_willem\">Willem de Kooning<\/span> and <span class=\"marked_text chart-tooltip-target-top tooltip_id-kline_franz\">Franz Kline<\/span>.\u00a0 Many of Mitchell\u2019s paintings are now held in exceptional collections such as, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and Tate Gallery, among many others.\u00a0 Her works at auction sell for millions of dollars, her most expensive work;
