{"id":10632,"date":"2014-01-14T17:36:53","date_gmt":"2014-01-14T17:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=10632"},"modified":"2024-03-15T06:58:46","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T10:58:46","slug":"former-marcos-aide-sentenced-in-art-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2014\/01\/former-marcos-aide-sentenced-in-art-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Marcos Aide Sentenced in Art Sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back on October 18, 2013 we posted an article about foreign service officer and later personal secretary for the wife of the ex-president of the Philippines, \u00a0Vilma Bautista, who had been indited on charges of conspiracy, tax fraud and offering a false instrument for filing for attempting to illegally sell artwork. \u00a0The former presidential family looted between $5 billion and $10 billion from the country\u2019s treasury. \u00a0 One of the works \u201cstolen\u201d and sold by Bautista is \u00a0Monet\u2019s \u201cJapanese Footbridge Over the Water-Lily Pond at Giverny\u201d for $32 million.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday (Monday, January 13, 2014) Bautista was sentenced to six years in state prison in New York for the charges.\u00a0 Also, she must pay $3.5 million in income taxes she owes to New York.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 200%;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/01\/14\/nyregion\/aide-to-imelda-marcos-is-sentenced-in-sale-of-masterpieces.html?ref=design&amp;_r=0\">Click here \u00a0for more details about the case and ruling<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 9.0pt;
