{"id":10587,"date":"2014-01-13T19:17:54","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T19:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/blog\/?p=10587"},"modified":"2024-01-30T05:00:51","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T10:00:51","slug":"famous-renoir-painting-found-at-thrift-store-returns-to-baltimore-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/2014\/01\/famous-renoir-painting-found-at-thrift-store-returns-to-baltimore-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Famous Renoir Painting &#8216;Found&#8217; At Thrift Store Returns To Baltimore Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we follow the story of the stolen Renior from the Baltimore Museum of Art, the case has finally come to a close.\u00a0 When \u00a0Marcia &#8220;Martha&#8221; Fuqua, of Lovettsville, Va., claimed to have bought a Renoir (unknown at the time) for $7 at a flea market in 2009, the art world dialed in on her story; questioning how did a 19<sup>th<\/sup> century masters work end up there in the first place?\u00a0 Well, according to the court ruling made against Fuqua by the Baltimore Museum of Art, it didn\u2019t! Where did it come from?\u00a0 Right off the Museum walls over 60 years ago in an art heist!<\/p>\n<p>When Fuqua contacted an auction house to sell the work word spread quickly to the Baltimore Museum of Art whose small Renoir went missing in 1951.\u00a0 \u201cOverwhelming evidence\u201d proved that the work belonged to the museum and Fuqua\u2019s own brother turned his back on her as he called her a \u201cLiar\u201d as he had seen the work in his family home numerous times before she claimed to have bought it.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Associated Press, Fuqua\u2019s mother, Marcia Fouquet was an artist who reproduced paintings from Renoir and other masters and had \u201cextensive links to the Baltimore art community in the 1950\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Upon return, the museum will host an unveiling of the work by the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2014\/01\/13\/renoir-painting-museum_n_4589122.html?utm_hp_ref=arts\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"n-MARCIA-FUQUA-large570\" src=\"https:\/\/rehs.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/n-MARCIA-FUQUA-large570.jpg\" width=\"342\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2014\/01\/13\/renoir-painting-museum_n_4589122.html?utm_hp_ref=arts\">Famous Renoir Painting &#8216;Found&#8217;
