BIOGRAPHY - Deanna Skalka B. 1953
Deanna Skalka was born in 1953 in Brooklyn, New York and resides in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania where she is inspired by the beauty of nature. She creates realistic charcoal drawings focusing on smooth gradations of light, dark and everything in between. Recent compositions include antiques visually connecting the past with the present.
After thirty years in the fashion industry, Deanna expressed to her daughter Sarahregret for not pursuing her lifelong desire to draw, Sarah replied, "What is stopping you now". Deanna spent every Saturday for the next three years attending Michael Burban’s anatomy drawing class at the Art Students League, New York. She continued with private instruction from illustrator, Gary Watson, Waverly, New York and attended workshops at The Florence Academy of Art, Italy, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia and The Ani Art Academy, Bear Creek. Her studies also included regular visits to museums and courses through the Violette de Mazia Foundation. She is a docent at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Museum of Art. Deanna has been studying under the tutelage of Master artist Joel Carson Jones since 2012.
