Edouard Léon Cortès At The Martin Museum Of Art

Sorry for not bringing this to your attention earlier, but we only learned about the exhibition late last week.  Back in 1981, Bill Mead (who according to reports, studied painting with Cortès in France) donated his collection of 36 works by the artist to the Martin Museum at Baylor University.  Since then, most of the Cortès paintings were displayed on office walls at Pat Neff Hall and in the Baylor president’s Allbritton House residence… (in other words, they were never really on public display).  In April of 2017, the Baylor Board of Regents selected a new President — Dr. Linda Livingstone. Her tenure began on June 1, 2017, and she returned all the Cortes paintings to the museum — guess it was time for a change of decor.

The museum is now presenting “Masters from the Martin: Edouard Léon Cortès” which features about 30 works.  The exhibit opened on May 16th and runs through August 11th.  I have searched the museum’s website for a link to the featured works, but was unable to find one.  I guess you will have to make a trip to Waco, Texas, to see them.
