Grant Wood “American Gothic”

Is Grant Wood’s famous painting serious or comic? It is this ambiguity that has helped made it one of the most parodied images in art history, writes Fisun Güner.

American after the Fall: Painting in the 1930’s opens at the Royal Academy, London, on February 25 and runs through June 4.  This will be the first time Grant Wood’s American Gothic will travel outside the U.S. and it is the center piece of the 45 work exhibition.
