Abstract art causes bomb scare at JFK

March 21, 2016

Every now and then we hear stories about works of art being mistaken as trash and thrown out.  This time, no art work made in into the recycling bin, but it did almost caused one artist to miss his flight.  The abstract artist was held up by TSA officers at John F. Kennedy Airport while making his way through screening.  His artwork, a tin can filled with what may be plaster and a few wires wrapped in green plastic set off a suspicious bomb alert.  After defending his work, TSA officers let the man and his art go, however in a case like this, TSA officers are supposed to call the Port Authority Police Department to carry out the proper inspection of a suspicious item which they failed to do.
