Damien Hirst’s only portrait of the Queen found in government archives

February 22, 2016

British artist Damien Hirst began his exploration of “spin paintings” in 1992.  Along with fellow artist Angus Fairhurst, the two contemporaries set up a booth at Joshua Compston’s artist led street fair and invited visitors to create their own “spin painting” for a single pound, to then be signed by the duo… (maybe this is where he came up with the idea of a warehouse full of artist painting and creating his works of art to be signed after completion?)….anyway, in recent news….. A never before seen Hirst spin painting of the Queen, in hues of red and blue, was found in the British Governments stash of art. Done in 2014, it is believed to be his first spin painting of Her Royal Highness.
