Pre-Raphaelite study discovered behind door in English mansion – Flaming June

May 4, 2015

A study for the head of Sir Frederic Lord Leighton’s “Flaming June” was recently discovered behind the bedroom door in a 16th century manor house that was owned by the Duchess of Roxburghe (she passed away last year at the age of 99).  The drawing will hit the auction block on July 15.  For the full article, click HERE.

“Flaming June” is in the collection of the Museo de Arts de Ponce and was acquired by the governor of Puerto Rico, Luis Ferre, back in 1963 for just $1,000.  The painting will be featured in an exhibition at The Frick Collection in NYC from June 9 – September 6, 2015.
