When the building owners of the Four Seasons restaurant proposed to remove Picasso’s “Le Tricorne” for wall repairs, conservators quickly stepped in and halted the plan. “Le Tricorne” is a 95 year old original Picasso curtain that has hung on the restaurant wall for over half a century. Conservators feared that the removal process and storage placement could damage or ultimately destroy the work.
On September 7th, specialist began the removal process and took three hours to wrap the large curtain in plastic before it was sent for restoration in Massachusetts. The work is estimated at $1.6 million and will be displayed at the New York Historical Society when restorations are completed.
