Seeing What Cannot Be Seen

June 17, 2014

It’s not the first time and it certainly won’t be the last… Science and technology continue to open new doors when it comes to exploring the art world. It is pretty common for an artist to reuse a canvas and sometimes paint over completed works. In this case, using infrared imaging, scientists have discovered a figurative work underneath Picasso’s masterpiece, “The Blue Room.” It has been long suspected that there was “something” under the paint, however this is the first time art historians have been able to truly see and study this hidden work.
