I have a difficult time understanding the “artistic” nature of strobe lights and smoke machines but Kurt Hentschalger creates art installations which result in a “loss of spatial orientation.” Unfortunately for Hentschalger, no one will be viewing his most recent work for some time. “Zee” (installed in Pittsburgh) has been indefinitely shut down since emergency services were called 3 times over the weekend due to viewers having seizures. Most shocking to me was that this exhibit was previously featured in other galleries in Pittsburgh and a spokesperson for the Pittsburgh Central Trust admitted that visitors at those galleries experienced seizures as well. There is currently no date set for a re-opening and it will remain closed until changes are made to the exhibit.
