Andreas Achenbach “Sicilian Landscape”
The Max Stern Art Restitution Project claims to have discovered another work that the Nazis forced Stern to liquidate … Andreas Achenbach’s “Sicilian Landscape”. On the other hand, Wolfgang Peiffer (the current owner), who bought the work at a London auction in 1999, claims that Stern sold it in a “normal gallery transaction” in 1937. We will keep an eye on this one and bring you an update.
And for all those collectors out there who always worry about owning too many works by an artist, according to the article, Mr. Peiffer owns 300 Achenbachs!
