da Vinci?

There is still a bit of speculation about the authenticity of the recently sold da Vinci painting.  Since I know very little about the Old Master market and, more importantly, never saw the actual painting (just had no interest in waiting on a long line to see a painting that has seen better days) I am leaving it to the ‘experts’ to fight it out.

Attributions in the Old Master realm often come down to connoisseurship and scientific analysis, so they are never 100% sure.  The only way to be positive is to ask the artist … and that can be difficult when they have been dead for 500 years!

I am hopeful that the buyer did their due diligence and assume they are very comfortable with their purchase.  But let’s face it, they are probably so wealthy that even if the work turns out to be wrong, a $450M loss won’t hurt too much … right??

Stephanie Eckardt did a fun little article in M Magazine with some of the best comments from the doubters … hope you enjoy them.
