Word has it that a thief walked into an auction house in Saint-Germain-en-Laye near Paris, and walked out with a tiny (5 x 4 inch) Renoir. “Portrait d’une jeune fille blonde” was scheduled to be sold this past weekend with an estimate of €25,000 to €30,000 ($29,000 to $35,000). Police are now studying the security tapes for clues.
Here is my question: if you are going to steal a Renoir, why this one?
