Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), “Shuffleton’s Barbershop”

Word is out, the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA, has decided to sell 40 works from its collection to fund a $40 million endowment and $20 million refurbishment. According to the American Alliance of Museums, this is a serious violation of their code of ethics.

Among the works being offered are 2 by Norman Rockwell – Shaftsbury Blacksmith Shop and Shuffleton Barbershop. Both were gifts from the artist.  While a full list has yet to be released, it has been reported that works by Frederick Church and Albert Bierstadt are included.
