Last Thursday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) sued to recover about $540 million in assets allegedly stolen from Malaysian fund 1MDB, established by PM Najib. Among the assets they are looking to get is a Picasso that Jho Low, the alleged mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal, bought for $3.2 million and gave to Leonardo DiCaprio as a birthday gift … I need friends like that!  There is also a Basquiat that Low bought for $9.2 million (that one might have been a good purchase given the recent spike in the Basquiat market).

Back in 2016, Swiss officials seized a Monet and Van Gogh and an art dealer filed papers for the return of a Monet that Low never finished paying for.  The saga continues.
