I found this very amusing and educational. The Royal Academy of Arts has produced step-by-step instructions (and a video) on how to create: multiple masterpiece spin art paintings (at some point we really need to examine how people are using the term ‘masterpiece’).
So, if you cannot afford that Damien Hirst spin painting you have been drooling over, have no fear. You can now create your own … and I bet most people will never be able to tell the difference!! On a side note, the Hirst spin paintings hit their peak in 2007 when his Beautiful explosion of vanity painting sold for $2.2M at Sotheby’s. Today, they can be had for under $1 million (most of the larger pieces now bring between $200-$500K) … if they even sell. Sorry Mr. Hirst.
