Jan Franse Verzijl’s Young Man as Bacchus was stolen from Max Stern by the Nazi’s in 1936 … it was one of over 400 works they took. The painting surfaced at a 2015 art fair in New York City and was seized by the FBI.  As you can tell, it took a bit of time but it has now been returned to the Stern Foundation.  According to the article, there are still hundreds of works from the Stern collection still missing.
